Statement from Cllr Jas Athwal, Leader of Redbridge Council and Andy Donald, Chief Executive, Redbridge Council

The attacks in our capital city on 3 June have shocked and horrified the nation.

We would like to offer our deepest condolences to all of those who lost their lives, were injured or affected by these barbaric events that were designed to target people who were enjoying a Saturday evening in London.

We will be observing a one minute silence at 11am on Tuesday 6 June as a mark of respect. The Leader of the Council Cllr Jas Athwal and Chief Executive Andy Donald invite staff to join them on the steps at the Town Hall for this period of silence. Alarm bells will ring to mark the beginning and end of the one minute silence.

The Police are currently reviewing and planning to strengthen policing across London over the forthcoming days.

We would also like to spare a thought for those emergency services who worked through the night to deal with this incident.

We ask staff to remain vigilant and to let Police know if you see anything suspicious that causes you concern and dial 999 immediately. 

We know as a diverse workforce and local community we work hard to ensure the actions of a few do not undermine the strong and cohesive relationships and partnerships that make Redbridge a strong and tolerant Borough.

We will be joining other UK Government buildings in flying our flag at half-mast from Monday morning (5 June).
