Ford RideLondon returns to Redbridge

Ford RideLondon, an annual cycling extravaganza, comes to Redbridge on Sunday, 26 May 2024.

The world's greatest festival of cycling includes a set of events with something for everyone, from the free and family-friendly FreeCycle to the mass participation challenge rides of 100, 60 and 30 miles and finally, the Classique, a women's professional race featuring the best riders in the world.

Since its formation in 2013, participants have raised more than £83 million for charity. The Ford RideLondon-Essex 100, 60, and 30-mile rides will take place on Sunday, 26 May, on traffic-free routes starting on Victoria Embankment and finishing on Tower Bridge in central London. 

Depending on the distance, varying loops will take riders into north-east London and Essex. The Ford RideLondon-Essex challenge is the UK's largest closed-road mass participation cycling event. The popular route has largely remained the same for the past two editions, combining the unique thrill of cycling on traffic-free roads in the centre of London with heading out into Essex's picturesque countryside. 

One minor change has been made to the route in Redbridge, which means riders taking on the 60 and 100-mile distances will pass through Buckhurst Hill for the final climb of the ride before the finish in central London. 

Local people can view the cycling along the route or attend the fun day at Woodford Cricket Club. Ford RideLondon will bring extensive benefits to the borough, attracting visitors to Redbridge's high streets, encouraging local people to take up cycling and promoting Redbridge as part of an internationally recognised sporting event.

Redbridge Council is working closely with event organisers to ensure Ford RideLondon is a fun day out for all the family with clear signage and plenty of information for local people in the run-up to the race.

Broadmead Road Bridge remains closed to vehicular traffic to prevent potential loss of life or serious injury. The official diversionary route is via the A406 to Chigwell Road or High Road, Woodford.

A fire gate on Hermitage Walk, South Woodford, will be opened to facilitate access to residents on Sunday, 26 May 2024.

Road Closures:

On Sunday, 26 May, some roads will be closed across East London, Essex, and parts of Redbridge. These closures have been organised to keep cyclists and people watching the cycling safe from cars for the duration of the event. 

Some adjoining roads will have no vehicle access during the road closure period. Residents who usually park on roads closed for the event will be asked to move their vehicles the night before.

The event organisers will tow away vehicles left on the route, and owners must access Trace London to retrieve their cars.

Blue light emergency vehicles will have priority over the event, and stewards along the route can assist with non-emergency issues.
