Cemeteries and crematoriums in Redbridge

Burial and cremation services are now back to normal following the relaxation of lockdown restrictions during the Covid pandemic.  All cemeteries within Redbridge, the crematorium grounds and office at Forest Park and are now fully open. For those who are unable to attend services, wed-casting is still available.

Cemetery and Crematorium sites in Redbridge

Within Redbridge, there are five cemeteries, four closed churchyards (no space for further burials) and a crematorium.

All sites are managed for the Council by the Westerleigh Group, who are a leading crematoria and cemeteries operator.  The company manages many sites throughout the country, caring for over 40,000 funerals a year.

Forest Park Cemetery and Crematorium

The main cemetery for burial within the borough is Forest Park, an 18-acre site sitting on the northern borders of Redbridge within Hainault. The crematorium is also located on this site.

Forest Park offers a modern built crematorium chapel and multi-faith burial land overlooking beautiful woodland.

The chapel provides a comforting setting for all types of services, with seating for approximately 100 people.  Services can be altered to create a suitable and special environment and the chapel personalised for any religion or belief.

Live or recorded music can be accommodated, as well as video, audio recording and live webcasts.

A variety of lawn and traditional graves are available and can be purchased in advance.

Cremations take place separately and within 24 hours of the cremation service.  The crematorium has been designed to meet a variety of religious and cultural beliefs including the Church of England, Roman Catholic, Hindu and Sikh.

Forest Park also provides a floral tribute area where family and friends can gather after the service. 

There is a 60-space car parking area for family and friends.

Westerleigh Group staff are in attendance during the services to assist the family and friends.

Other Cemetery Sites within Redbridge

  • Roding Lane North Cemetery, Woodford – this cemetery is open for funerals and has a dedicated burial area for the Ahmadiyya Muslim community.
  • Barkingside Garden of Rest, Longwood Gardens, Barkingside – this cemetery holds no new burial space but is open for burials in pre-purchased plots.
  • Barkingside Cemetery, Longwood Gardens, Barkingside – this cemetery holds no new burial space but is open for burials in pre-purchased plots
  • Buckingham Road Cemetery – Ilford – this cemetery holds no new burial space.

 

Demolition of Shelter at Barkingside Garden of Rest

Works to demolish the shelter situated just to the right of the main entrance within the Garden of Rest is to commence in 7 November 2022.  The shelter is now surplus to requirements and has been the target recently of anti-social behaviour.  Its removal provides an opportunity to re-develop this area of the Garden of Rest.

These works are expected to be completed prior to Remembrance Day on the 11 November 2022. However if works are delayed beyond this date, no works will take place on Remembrance Day or Remembrance Sunday.
