Local Community Groups
Want to help address Climate Change in Redbridge? There are a number of local community groups who are undertaking various projects across the borough which you can get involved in.
Transition Town Ilford
Transition Town Ilford aims to bring together diverse people in Ilford to promote awareness of sustainable living and build local ecological and community resilience. They organise one off events and ongoing projects including a popular yearly Food Fest and encouraging a local greengrocer to stock organic vegetables for the holiday season.
If you live or work in the Ilford area, Transition Town Ilford currently have 3 working groups you can get involved with;

Forest garden - A project to turn a donated site in Valentine's park into a biodiverse edible garden through planting all kinds of fruit, herbs, nuts, spices, berries, vegetables for everyone to share. For more information visit Transition Town Ilford's webpage.

Community Energy - A project, to support Ilford community and faith groups to change over to LED lighting, a more energy efficient lighting source. Transition Town Ilford are also looking to support schools willing to change to solar power and are currently piloting a scheme to loan a thermal camera to understand where community buildings are losing energy. South Woodford Society
South Woodford Society want to make South Woodford an even better place to live, work and visit. They help promote the monthly market, co-ordinate local businesses, run litter picks and liaise on community engagement, climate change, transportation and sustainability.

Chadwell Heath South Residents' Association
Chadwell Heath South Residents' Association protects the interests of residents in Chadwell Heath and delivers community projects that have emerged after identifying local need. These projects complement ongoing regeneration activities, and vary in scale and transformative impact. All fulfil an aim of encouraging social cohesion, preserving the borough's heritage and promoting Arts and Culture.

Wanstead Climate Action
Wanstead Climate Action are a local group in Wanstead and Snaresbrook who came together in 2019 over shared concerns about the climate emergency. Through non-violent protest, letter writing, local actions, and education, Wanstead Climate Action aim to raise awareness of the urgent need for climate justice whilst reducing carbon emissions.

Nature Conservation Volunteering Workdays
Keeping the green spaces of Redbridge up and running is hard work, and could not be done without the help of our volunteers. From mulching young trees to cleaning ponds, there are loads of things to get stuck into. We usually meet every Tuesday and Thursday, and we are always looking for new recruits.
You can:
- gain valuable practical experience in conservation
- keep yourself fit and healthy
- help as often or as little as you like - we hold volunteer days on Tuesdays and Thursdays throughout the year
- work in a safe environment - tools, safety equipment and training are all provided
- thrive in the laid-back atmosphere - everyone works at their own pace and there are plenty of breaks
- spot local wildlife and learn more about ecology

Aldborough Hatch Defence Association (AHDA)
Working with local residents and the council since the 1960' to ensure Aldborough Hatch & environs is a pleasant place to live.
- Organising 'Clean up days' - Regular 'Clean up the Hatch' litter picking
- Management of the Dick Turpin Orchard Project - Regular maintenance of the orchard
- Watching over Aldborough Hall Nature Reserve
