Who we are and what we do
The London Borough of Redbridge Council is a data controller under the data protection law as we collect and process personal information about you in order to provide public services and meet our statutory obligations.
The London Borough of Redbridge is committed to protecting and respecting your privacy. Through this privacy notice we have sought to be as transparent as possible to fully explain how your personal data is held and processed.
This privacy notice explains why we collect personal information for the Redbridge web account and how we use the information.
Upon visiting our websites, we will use third party service providers to collect technical information from your device including standard internet log information such as the Internet Protocol (IP) address, your browser type and version, and certain page interaction information.
Why we need your information and how we use it
The information that we ask from you to create your Redbridge account is necessary if you wish to carry out transactions online for some of our services such as council tax, applying for housing benefits, managing your housing rent account, applying for parking permits, finding out about planning applications near you, managing business rates accounts, applying for jobs in the Council, making appointments online, bulky waste collections, applying for in year school admissions, reporting missed waste collections.
Your address is used to personalised content on our Redbridge website so that we can provide information relating to where you live. We also use your address to verify your entitlement to certain services such as when applying for Parking Permits.
Each service that we provide or you engage with also has its own privacy notice to explain in more details how they use your information and the legal basis for using your information.
What type of information is collected from you
To create an account we ask you to provide the following information:
- a username
- your email address (this used to activate the account and verify we have a valid email address for you and is used for any transactions you carry out)
- your full postal address (if you live in the borough)
- your postcode (if you do not live in the borough)
- name (optional)
Who your information may be shared with (internally and externally)
Your Redbridge account details is not shared with any third party organisations, the information you provide via your Redbridge account is only shared with the Council services that you apply for online.

How long we keep your information
We will keep your Redbridge account information for as long as you require the account. Your account details are deleted when you no longer wish to have the account.

How you can access, update or correct your information
The Data Protection law gives you the right to apply for a copy of information about yourself. This is called a Subject Access Request. Find out more on how to make a Subject Access Request.
The accuracy of your information is important to us to be able to provide relevant services more quickly. If you change your address or email address, or if any of your circumstances change or any of the other information we hold is inaccurate on your Redbridge Account you can use the ‘My Profile’ to correct or amend your account details.
