Referral to the Welfare Benefits Team
The Welfare Benefits Team provide a service for Redbridge residents who have difficulty using mainstream advice providers due to a serious, long-term health condition, disability or age-related limitations.
For such residents, we offer
- advice about benefit entitlements and how to access them
- guidance on income maximisation
- specialist casework support and representation
- signposting to other services and support
For those who can access mainstream services or have someone who can do so on their behalf, please visit the council's main website or the Department for Work and Pensions
Before making a referral
- Check whether a referral is appropriate - if the resident can access mainstream advice services, please direct them accordingly
- If you are acting on behalf of a Redbridge resident and can access mainstream services, please visit the websites provided above
- Gather all information on finances, benefits and medical evidence that may be required by the Welfare Benefit team
When you refer
The form must be completed in full and should include:
- Health conditions
- Benefits in payment
- Why a referral is required
- Living arrangements and contact details
- Consent to the referral or confirm if the resident lacks capacity
- Immigration status if the person referred if not a UK national
- Wherever possible, documentary evidence should be uploaded/ provided separately
