Trade waste agreements

All businesses are required by law to have waste produced at their premises removed by a recognised trade waste carrier.

What if I don't want a Trade Waste Agreement?

A Trade Waste Agreement is compulsory by law.  So you have to have one. The Environmental Protection Act 1990 places duties on persons who produce waste from any kind of business. This includes shops, restaurants and takeaways.

If you ask someone else to get rid of your waste, you must make sure that the person is:

  • from a licensed waste collection company

Is this included in my business rates?

No. Your business rates do not cover the collection of your business waste.

Your duty as a business

It is your duty as a person who produces, keeps or disposes of controlled waste to prevent the escape of waste from your control. This means that you must package the waste in suitable containers so that it cannot escape or blow about.

You must make sure that any unauthorised person cannot remove the waste. This means by vandals or thieves. You must also secure your waste against animals, accident or the weather.
