Order copy certificates

There is a high demand for copy certificates. Your certificate may not be sent within 15 working days. We're sorry for the delay.  

 

You can get a copy of a birth, death, marriage or civil partnership certificate from us if it took place in Redbridge.

Cost of certificates 

We offer two types of service.

Standard service

Certificates cost £12.50 each.

Certificates are sent within 15 working days of receiving your order.

Priority service

If you need the certificate sooner, you can use the priority service.

Certificates cost £38.50 each.

Certificates are sent on the following working day.

 

Delivery costs and times

You can choose how you want your certificate delivered.

Second class

There is no extra cost for postage. Certificates will be sent in a standard A5 envelope.

There is no guaranteed timescale for delivery. You should allow extra time for your certificate to reach you.

If your certificate gets lost in the post, you’ll need to apply and pay again.

Next day delivery

There is a £10 fee per order. Certificates will be sent in an A4 hardback envelope.

You'll need to allow time for the certificate to be processed. 

For example, if you choose the standard service we'll process this within 15 working days. When the certificate is ready to send to you, we'll post it out as next day delivery.

You’ll need to sign on delivery.

Collection

You can choose to collect from the Ilford Town Hall. We’ll let you know by telephone or email when your certificate is ready for collection.

We’ll hold your certificate for one year. If you do not collect your certificate, we’ll confidentially destroy it. You’ll need to pay again for another certificate.

 

How to order

Check that the event happened in Redbridge before you order your certificate. We cannot give you a refund.

You can order a copy of your certificate using our online form.

You’ll need:

  • the full name(s) on the certificate
  • the date of the event
  • the place of the event
  • for a birth, we need to know the parents' names on the certificate
  • for a death, we need to know the occupation, age and home address of the deceased
  • a credit or debit card to make payment

What happens next

We’ll process your request. You’ll receive an email to say that your certificate has been posted.

If we do not hold your record

We cannot give you a refund. We’ll keep a search fee of £12.50 and refund any extra payments you have made.

 

If you’re outside the UK

We cannot provide copy certificates to anyone outside the UK. You may be able to order these from the General Register Office.

 

Adoption certificates

We cannot provide copies of adoption certificates. These can be ordered from the General Register Office.

 

Baby loss certificates

 We cannot provide copies of baby loss certificates. You’ll need to request these from GOV.UK.

Events before 1 July 1837
