Order copy certificates
You can get a copy of a birth, death, marriage or civil partnership certificate from us if it took place in Redbridge.
If the birth, death, marriage or civil partnership took place outside of Redbridge, you must:
- contact the local council where it happened
- order from the General Register Office

Cost and delivery times
Certificates cost £12.50 each.
We send certificates by Royal Mail second class. There is no extra cost for postage.
There is no guaranteed timescale for delivery so allow extra time for your certificate to reach you.
If your certificate gets lost in the post, you’ll need to apply and pay again.
How to order
Check that the event happened in Redbridge before you order your certificate. We cannot give you a refund.
You can order a copy of your certificate using our online form.
You’ll need:
- the full name(s) on the certificate
- the date of the event
- the place of the event
- for a birth, we need to know the parents' names on the certificate
- for a death, we need to know the occupation, age and home address of the deceased
- a credit or debit card to make payment
What happens next
We’ll process your request within 15 working days.
You’ll receive an email to say that your certificate has been posted.
If you’re outside the UK
We cannot provide copy certificates to anyone outside the UK. You may be able to order these from the General Register Office.
Adoption certificates
We cannot provide copies of adoption certificates. These can be ordered from the General Register Office.
Baby loss certificates
We cannot provide copies of baby loss certificates. You’ll need to request these from GOV.UK.
