Street trading licences

Our Street Trading Policy and list of pitches is currently in public consultation and while this is in progress we are not able to issue any new street trading permits.    Any trading outside a premises within 7m of the highway without a licence is at your own risk and you may be fined.

Street and pavement trading licences are normally issued to persons wishing to carry out commercial activities on the Public Realm.

If you have a commercial premises and wish to extend your own trade onto the adjacent public pavement, visit the pavement trading page.

If you are looking to sub-let your own private forecourt/car park for retail or refreshment activity, you will require a street trading licence if this is within 7m of the Highway.

If you are a street trader looking for a new street trading pitch then I am sorry but we do not currently have any available pitches.

Implementation of New Street Trading Policy

The London Borough of Redbridge has developed a draft Street Trading policy in order to provide a framework for the Council to administer and regulate street trading in a consistent manner.

In developing this policy and regulating street trading activities, the Council aims to reduce the administrative burden on applicants, licence holders and traders as far as is feasible. In addition, it aims to provide protections for the public and consumers, and details the Council’s enforcement powers. The aim being to provide a clear, consistent and transparent policy for all concerned.

The draft policy sets out the regulatory framework, application process and conditions of licensing for the following activities:

  • Street trading from pitches
  • Trading activities on private land within 7m of the public highway
  • Shopfront licensing
  • Temporary street trading
  • Itinerant trading, such as ice cream vans

In addition to seeking views from key stakeholders within the industry, Redbridge Council also seeks the views on the draft policy from the wider public.

We are now considering the feedback from the consultation that ended on 31 October and will update this web page with the new process and pitch list when it is agreed by Councillors.
