Bands and charges

Council tax bands and charges for 2024/25

  • B (£40,001-£52,000): £1625.45

  • D (£68,001-£88,000): £2089.87
  • E (£88,001-120,000): £2554.29
  • F (£120,001-£160,000): £3018.70
  • G (£160,001-£320,000): £3483.12
  • H (More than £320,000): £4179.74

Check the band of a property

You can check the council tax band for the property you live in and find out how much your Council Tax rate is.

How your council tax band is worked out

How much council tax you pay depends on which council tax band your property is in.

The bands are based on the value of the property you live in at a specific point in time. Current council tax bands are based on what a home might have sold for in April 1991.

Even if the property you live in was built recently, its band is based on an estimation of what its value would have been in 1991.

Appeal your council tax band

We do not decide which council tax band your home is in. This is done by the Valuation Office Agency.

If you think your band is wrong, you can make an appeal on GOV.UK

You must continue to pay Council Tax even if you're appealing a council tax band.

Exemption or discounts

You may be able to apply for a discount or exemption on your council tax because for example you:

  • have no income or a low income
  • are disabled
  • live alone
