Abbey Mills Pumping Station

location icon Abbey Lane Stratford London, E15 2RW

Abbey Mills Pumping Station is also known as "The Cathedral of Sewage", partly because of it's looks, and partly because the building is shaped like a cross. The Pumping Station stands next to the Northern Outfall Sewer, which was built in the 1860's to carry away the increasing amount of sewage produced in London. The building has some great historical and industrial importance.
