Blooming marvellous Ilford Lane!
When local children were asked how they would like to contribute to brightening up the area in front of the engagement hub on Ilford Lane, it was clear they wanted to get creative.
So, we launched a planter art competition. Over 600 entries were submitted by eager young people, which were whittled down to 64 finalists. These young people created fantastic designs showcasing the community in the area, and the love they have for where they live.
The winning eight entries are being printed on permanent signs. Look out for these on the sides of the large planters we have installed.
Art competition winner, Joanna, said “I drew robots because I see technology everywhere. I also used vibrant colours because these colours represent happiness. I was very excited when I found out I won because it is the first time I won a competition.”
Art competition winner, Sudishka, said “I really like nature so I drew the natural things that I see in Ilford Lane. When I won, I was so happy but at the same time I was embarrassed because everyone in my class was clapping.”
But our wonderful local children didn’t stop there… children from Cleveland Road Primary School, Uphall School, Woodlands School and our lovely local people from One Place East, came to see the planters, with lots of them getting their hands dirty by planting tulips and other bedding plants, which will bring a lovely splash of colour to the area.
Thank you to everyone who entered, and congratulations to those who created the winning designs. We can’t wait to see the flowers in full bloom!
