Redbridge Go Green Grant

Green Grants are available to homeowners and landlords in the borough to help improve the energy efficiency of their homes, through the installation of low-carbon and low-cost insulation improvements. This could help save up to £500 or more a year on energy bills and help make homes warmer and more comfortable for the people living in them.

The Green Homes Grants Scheme can provide grants of up to £4,500 per home. The amount of funding will depend on the outcome of a property survey and the current Energy Performance Certificate (EPC) rating. Funding is only available for properties that are a ‘D’ or below EPC .

The Go Green Grant Phase 3 scheme runs from December 2023 until  the March 2025. It is co-funded by the UK Shared Prosperity Fund and the Disabled Facilities Grant.

Eligibility

Owner occupiers, landlords and tenants are eligible for funding. In the case of a rental property, the landlord needs to make the initial application, automatically generating an application for the tenant to supply income information. The income eligibility applies to the existing tenant and not the landlord.

*The landlord must have an assured shorthold tenancy agreement in place with an existing tenant to be eligible for the grant.

  • Your property will need to have an Energy Performance Certificate rating of D, E, F or G. If you do not currently have an EPC certificate registered to your property, this will be determined for you at the initial survey. Your home may already have an energy performance rating. You can check that via the energy performance register. If your home is not listed on the register, please do not worry we will get the rating checked as part of the application eligibility process.
  • Household income of £30,000 or under.

All applicants must provide the following income evidence:

  • Where an applicant is in receipt of Universal Credit, a full universal credit statement is required
  • For all other benefits and income, three months bank statements for all bank accounts and three month’s pay slips must be provided
  • Where a self-assessment tax form is provided, we will also need the previous year's certified copy of the tax return

We would encourage anyone who believes they are eligible to complete the application process to establish eligibility.

Types of work that can be carried out

As part of the application process, your property will undergo an energy efficiency survey undertaken by qualified surveyors, they will recommend the appropriate measures.

The types of measures recommended may include improved heating and temperature controls, hot water cylinder replacement or insulation, loft and floor insulation, solar panels, part glazing, or cavity wall insulation.

Other remedial works may be offered but this is dependent on the condition of the property and the costs involved.

The grant does not provide funding for the repair or replacement of gas boilers.

Cost

The grant will provide full funding for measures up to a maximum threshold of £4,500 and you will not need to make a contribution. However, if you opt for measures that are above the £4,500 threshold, you will be required to pay the difference before the works commence.
