Air quality
Air pollution has a significant impact on public health, accounting for around 9,400 premature deaths in London each year and affecting the health of many more with asthma, hay fever and other conditions. Vehicles are the biggest cause of air pollution in Redbridge.
Air Quality Action Plan
The Air Quality Action Plan 2020-25 (PDF 2.98MB) aims to improve air quality in the borough, working in collaboration with our communities, the London Assembly, and national government.
Our planned actions are focused on reducing nitrogen dioxide and particulate matter emissions to make the air cleaner and healthier and our key priorities are set out in the AQAP Executive Summary (PDF 503KB).
We Care For Our Air
We Care For Our Air is a community focused project aiming to improve air quality in the borough and to raise awareness about the issues of air pollution. Running from March 2023 to March 2024 it focuses on schools and GP surgeries in three areas: Loxford, Goodmayes and Newbury. Residents are encouraged to get involved in monitoring air pollution levels in their neighbourhoods. The data gathered will be used to drive action towards improving local health outcomes.
