Redbridge stands with Pakistan

Redbridge Council and Ilford Islamic Centre, in partnership with Islamic Relief UK and Al Mustafa Welfare Trust, will be holding an emergency fundraising dinner at 6.30pm on Monday 5 September, at Redbridge Town Hall to support the 33 million people affected by severe flooding in Pakistan.
The flooding in Pakistan has resulted in at least 1,136 deaths since June, with numbers expected to rise dramatically, and roads, crops, homes, and bridges have been destroyed across the country. Emergency teams are continuing lifesaving efforts in Pakistan. They are working with local communities to establish how best to support affected families who urgently need food, shelter, bedding, and hygiene items.
The situation in Pakistan is expected to deteriorate with more rainfall forecast.
Redbridge Council has partnered with Ilford Islamic Centre, national charity Islamic Relief UK and Al Mustafa Welfare Trust to launch an urgent appeal for donations to respond to the disaster in Pakistan. As part of fundraising efforts, a dinner will be held on Monday 5 September, at Redbridge Town Hall.
The Leader of Redbridge Council, Cllr Jas Athwal, said “The devastation unfolding in Pakistan is heart-breaking and deeply personal to so many in Redbridge who have family living in Pakistan. It is our responsibility to step up and stand by Pakistan in its hour of need, and we will do everything we can to help our brothers and sisters survive and recover from this catastrophic flooding.”
Tufail Hussain, Director of Islamic Relief UK, said, “We must act now to support urgent relief efforts in Pakistan to avoid an even greater loss of life. The flooding has had a tremendous impact on communities around the world, and we are grateful to Redbridge Council for coordinating local efforts to help those in desperate need.”
Abdul Razzaq Sajid, CEO of Al Mustafa Welfare Trust, said, “Now is our opportunity as a global community to come together and support the people of Pakistan in their hour of need. Together we can raise much-needed funds and help save lives.”
