Top marks for Redbridge GCSE students
Published: 26 August 2022
Students in Redbridge have received their GCSE results.
Redbridge Council offers its thanks and congratulations to all our schools, teachers, support staff, students and parents for their dedication, sacrifice and hard work.
Provisional results representing 14 of the 18 secondary schools in Redbridge show that:
- 68% per cent of pupils achieved grades 5 or above in English and mathematics GCSEs
- The average attainment 8 score is 57.6
- 55% per cent of pupils entering the English Baccalaureate
- The average EBacc APS score per pupil is 5.32
And there were some individual success stories too:
The Forest Academy in Hainault is delighted to report on brilliant GCSE exam results achieved by the students this summer. Results have improved rapidly since external examinations last took place in 2019. There has been a 16% increase in the number of students gaining strong passes in English and Maths GCSE, and attainment and progress figures are now well above national averages.
Will Mackintosh, Principal at The Forest Academy, said: "We are so proud of our students, who have performed exceptionally well in their exams this year. These rapid improvements are down to great teaching across the school and the students putting in hard work every day. They have been a pleasure to work with, and are a credit to themselves, their families and the Forest Academy community.
“The students deserve the grades they have received, and there were wonderful scenes as the students collected their results this morning – even some 'singing in the rain'. We look forward to welcoming many of them back in September to the Beal 6th Form, which is based at Forest Academy and Beal High School."
Runisa Rashid, who was awarded 9 GCSEs at grade 7 or above, said: "I'm grateful for all of the teachers who helped and supported me to get here". Runisa is going to Beal 6th form to study 3 A-levels.
Dawson Bailey, who was awarded 7 GCSEs at grade 7 or above, said: "I am so happy – the school pushed me and allowed me to achieve my full potential – thank you to everyone at The Forest Academy". Dawson has enrolled for Beal 6th form.
Ryan Standing was delighted with his results and to be staying for 6th Form. Ryan, who has been at The Forest Academy since year 7 and has not let anything hold him back during his time at secondary school, said: "I am really happy with my results. I would like to thank my teachers for their support which now means I can go to 6th form".
The vast majority of Year 11 students are staying at Beal 6th form, either at The Forest Academy or Beal High School campus. All others are completing high-quality apprenticeships or will attend local colleges.
The Leader of Redbridge Council, Cllr Jas Athwal, said: "Congratulations to the pupils who collected their GCSE results today. I visited my old school, Mayfield, and it was fantastic to witness the excitement and anticipation as pupils found out their results. Redbridge has outstanding schools and provides excellent education and opportunities for young people.
"I'd like to thank the pupils, teachers, and parents for their hard work. The last few years haven't been easy for young people, but I'm sure today made it all worthwhile."
