Students in Redbridge celebrate GCSE results
Published: 28 August 2024
Students in Redbridge are celebrating success with their GCSE results.
Redbridge Council congratulates all our students, teachers, support staff, and parents on their dedication, sacrifice, and hard work.
One school that has truly shone is Woodbridge High School in Woodford. They are celebrating their best-ever school results, a remarkable achievement given the challenges the students faced with lockdown in years 7 and 8 during the COVID-19 pandemic. This success is a testament to the resilience and dedication of our students and the unwavering support of our teachers and staff.
Eyaan Wali, a Woodbridge High School student, is an exceptional achiever and is celebrating his GCSEs, having been awarded six 9s, two 8s, and one 7. Eyaan said: " I did better than I thought! Woodbridge is a great school with great support. Keep going, even if you are feeling down. It will all work out."
Another student, Rachana Mukhund, also achieved exceptional results. She secured seven 9s and three 8s and will continue her education in the Sixth Form at Woodbridge in September. Rachana expressed her excitement, saying, “I’m really thrilled with my results, and I’m so thankful to all my teachers. It's a great feeling to see all my hard work pay off.”
Other schools across the borough revealed some impressive results. At The Ursuline Academy Ilford, one student, Maariyah Saumtally, achieved grade 9 in all ten of her GCSEs.
There were scenes of jubilation at Wanstead High School as they announced a fantastic set of results. Pablo Nunes and Anna Frost scored ten grade 9s, while Elliot Fearn achieved nine grade 9s and a grade 8. Maya Elton received eight grade 9s and one grade 8, and Cole Nagle received seven grade 9s.
Eleanor Clough, who got one 9, three 8s and three 7s, summed up the mood when she cried, ‘We did it!’
While at Woodford County High School for Girls, four brilliant students landed straight Grade 9s, and fifteen achieved Grades 8/9s
The Leader of Redbridge Council, Kam Rai, said: “One of the main reasons families make Redbridge their home is that we have so many outstanding schools in the borough, right on their doorstep. Across Redbridge, we have some brilliant students and teachers who work so hard to achieve the academic results we’ve seen this week.
"We have some great young minds in the borough with so much untapped potential, many of whom are destined for incredible things. There are no bounds to what they can achieve.”
“I want to thank our teaching staff for their tireless support and dedication, which ensures our students reach their maximum potential.”
Cllr Lloyd Duddridge, Cabinet Member for Children, Young People and Education, attended Mayfield School in Goodmayes to join the excitement. He said: "It was great to join students at Mayfield School to celebrate their GCSE results.
“All of the students in Redbridge have fought so hard for every grade they have achieved. They thoroughly deserve their success and the exciting future ahead of them, where the sky is the limit. I'm sure many will now be enjoying some well-earned celebrations with their families and friends.”
Results in Redbridge show that:
- 65 per cent of pupils achieved grades five or above in English and mathematics GCSEs
- The average Attainment 8 score is 55
