House fire - Ilford
Published: 10 December 2024
Update - Friday 20 December
A crane is now on site and working to make the building and adjoining buildings.
Once that has been completed, a survey will assess damage inside buildings. Following this, we will have a plan for the structural work required to ensure the site's safety.
We are working with partners to ensure the road can be reopened safely as soon as possible.
In the meantime, the road closure on Ley Street, between Perth Road and Benton Road, will be in place for the foreseeable future, so please use other routes and check TfL if you use the 169 bus, as diversions are in place.
We will update this page with any developments to inform you of progress.
Thanks for your patience and understanding.
Update -Wednesday 18 December 2024:
Hoarding is going up around the affected properties on Ley Street. A crane is on site and will be working on Friday, to make building safe to enter. This is being managed by Wates.
There will then be a survey undertaken to assess damage inside buildings. Following this, we will have a plan of structural work required to ensure the site can be made safe.
We anticipate by the end of Friday we will get a better timetable of works from Wates.
We will update this page when we have more information. We are working with partners to ensure the road can be reopened safely as soon as possible, but it may be a few weeks. Safety is of course our top priority. Thank you for your ongoing patience.
Update - Thursday 12 December 2024:
The road closure on Ley Street, between Perth Road and Benton Road, will be in place for the foreseeable future, so please use other routes, and check TfL if you use the 169 bus, as diversions are in place. This is to allow the investigation to take place, supporting Police and Fire partners.
Update 9.20pm, Tuesday 10 December 2024:
Following significant work from our blue light partners, the road closure on Ley Street has been reduced. It is closed between Perth Road and Benton Road. The closure will last until at least 11am, so please use alternative roads for travel.
Please don't move cones or signage to access the area along this stretch of road, as emergency services are still working in this area.
Thank you for your co-operation in allowing blue lights to do their work.
