Host a VE Day street party
Published: 28 February 2025
Redbridge Council is calling on residents to join in the celebrations for the 80th anniversary of VE Day, by hosting their very own street parties. This is a fantastic opportunity to bring neighbours together, strengthen community bonds, and commemorate this historic occasion.
Communities across Redbridge have a proud tradition of hosting street parties, creating thriving, close-knit neighbourhoods. During His Majesty The King’s Coronation, Redbridge hosted almost 100 street parties across the borough, the second highest number of street parties for any London borough – showing the strength of our local community spirit and the strong relationships between neighbours.
Hosting a street party is simple and fun and commemorating the 80th anniversary of VE Day during the May Bank Holiday is the perfect time to host one. The Council will support you by closing off the road and supplying any necessary road closure signage and cones. You will even be given branded VE Day kits, including bunting and flags, to help you celebrate!
The Leader of Redbridge Council, Councillor Kam Rai, said: ‘’We are thrilled to invite our residents to celebrate the 80th anniversary of VE Day by hosting street parties across Redbridge. These events are a wonderful way to bring our community together, honour our shared history, and create lasting memories. I encourage everyone to take part in this historic occasion and help us make it a memorable day for all.’’
If you would like to host a street party on your road, simply complete an application form before 4 April 2025.
