Mercato Metropolitano opens its doors to Redbridge and London

Published: 15 July 2024

Mercato Ilford recently opened its doors to a wave of anticipation, excitement, and the smell of good food.  Located in a transformed car park in the heart of the cultural quarter in Ilford, the new space provides local people and visitors to the borough with a stylish, vibrant, and buzzing destination where they can enjoy a range of different cuisines and dishes from around the globe, alongside a backdrop of entertainment and music.

As one of four Mercato locations in London, including Mayfair, Mercato is set to create over 100 jobs and boost our local economy amongst a community well known for buying, shopping, eating locally, and supporting local businesses.

The Deputy Leader of the Council, Cllr Kam Rai said, "The opening of Mercato Metropolitano, right in the heart of Ilford is a shining example of regeneration, helping to create employment for local people, bringing in new opportunities for local traders, and encouraging visitors into our town centre.

Mercato Metropolitano will give our communities somewhere to come together and enjoy some of the best and most diverse artisan food from local traders, with music and regular entertainment.

This marketplace will complement other developments designed to entertain and support local people, including the planned lido, and the renovation of Hainault Forest and Foxburrows Farm, with a new golf driving range in the pipeline. Mercato, just a short stroll from the Kenneth Moore Theatre, the historic town hall and Space Studios Art Gallery, rounds off our cultural quarter, and will be enjoyed by people who live and work in Ilford, and no doubt many more from further afield."
