103 new affordable homes completed for local families in Redbridge
Published: 4 March 2025
One of Redbridge's largest new housing developments, Little Gearies, has been officially completed. It offers much-needed new homes for families on our housing waiting list.
The Little Gearies development brings the borough closer to its goal of delivering 600 new council homes by the end of 2025.
A ribbon-cutting and tree-planting ceremony marked the completion of 103 new council homes. . The event was attended by Council Leader Cllr Kam Rai, Housing and Homelessness Cabinet Member Cllr Saima Ahmed, Hills Contractors, and most importantly, the residents who will call these new homes their own.
Construction began in December 2022 and finished four months ahead of schedule in January. As Redbridge’s second-largest new development after Loxford Lane, Little Gearies offers a mix of one-, two- and three-bedroom flats, houses, and maisonettes.
The Little Gearies development is about providing new homes and creating a sustainable and eco-friendly community. The homes feature air-source heat pumps and solar panels, reducing residents' energy bills and contributing to a greener environment.
Councillor Kam Rai, Leader of Redbridge Council, said: “It's great to finally reach this important milestone and see one of our flagship housing schemes complete. These developments are far more than bricks and mortar; they provide vital homes to families who want to settle down and get on with their lives without worrying about where they will live next.
“Little Gearies is already an established community in its own right, and the new residents will be made to feel at home quickly and comfortable in their new surroundings. The housing crisis in this country is showing no sign of easing anytime, and while we have delivered on our promise to build 600 new homes by 2025, we must also accept the stark reality that demand still far exceeds the supply.
In Redbridge, we have 3,000 households living in temporary accommodation, and 8,000 people are on our council house waiting list. Therefore, we will continue working with the government and other partners to explore new opportunities to provide affordable housing for local people."
