Memorial for those lost to Covid 19, 11am Saturday 26 November, Valentines Park

Redbridge Council is inviting local people to the unveiling of a plaque to remember all those in Redbridge lost to and were affected by Covid-19. 

The council is holding a short tribute at 11am on Saturday 26th November, at the Redbridge Covid-19 Memorial Garden near the Valentines Park Bandstand, accessible via the Cranbrook Road park entrance. 

We hope the Memorial Garden, with its trail containing hundreds of memorial stones will serve as a fitting and long-lasting memorial to the hundreds of local people who sadly passed away during the Covid-19 pandemic. Local people are invited to make their own tribute by writing on the memorial stones which form part of this permanent site.  

The Deputy Leader of Redbridge Council, Cllr Kam Rai, said:  

"The pandemic was an incredibly difficult time for all of us, many lost loved ones, and we all had to sacrifice and change the way we lived to keep one another safe from the virus. I am incredibly proud that throughout the most challenging periods of the pandemic, our communities came together and supported our neighbours – showing how strong our community spirit is here in Redbridge. 

"When planning the Redbridge Covid-19 Memorial Garden, we took inspiration from local people and artists in residence at Ilford’s SPACE Studios to make sure the memorial reflected our community. 

"We hope this space provides a quiet refuge for local people to reflect, remember and pay their respects."
