UK Parliament Week 2024

Published: 18 November 2024

18th- 24th November is UK Parliament Week.

UK Parliament week is an opportunity to learn more about Parliament: what it is, what it does and how you can get involved. This is a national campaign that celebrates democracy in the UK, encouraging interest and engagement with Parliament, elections and political institutions across the country.

Democracy is vital in the UK and is something that everyone can get involved in. Last year there were over 16,000 activities and events across the country to mark the week.

Across the nation, councils, schools and community groups will be hosting events to celebrate UK Parliament Week.

In Redbridge we have:

  • Created lesson plans to teach children and young people about Parliament, democracy, elections and local government. We have also shared resources with all schools to encourage individual engagement with the celebration
  • Run a Youth Democracy Presentation evening, where students from schools in Redbridge were invited to present on a topic of their choice to Councillors and Local MPs
  • Run educational sessions about the House of Commons, House of Lords and role of MPs in the UK with Child Friendly Redbridge youth ambassadors

Parliament Week is a great opportunity to learn more about democracy, politics and voting.
