Redbridge tenants to receive a dose of fibre
Published: 22 October 2024
Redbridge housing tenants are in for a significant upgrade with the introduction of full-fibre broadband, a key component of our digital infrastructure programme. This exciting initiative promises to revolutionize tenants' internet experience, offering faster speeds, more reliable connectivity, and a host of new possibilities for digital interaction.
Working in partnership with our digital provider, Openreach, over 700 full fibre upgrades have already been delivered to households across the borough, with a further 400 planned in the coming weeks. This is part of the council's ambitious programme to address digital inclusion in the borough.
With the old copper network expiring in 2027, some properties will experience limited connectivity, connection dropouts, and slower internet speeds. The new programme promises to transform this, allowing residents to enjoy fast, reliable internet speeds to use digital platforms to make appointments with the NHS while providing faster access to streaming services and gaming.
The new installation will provide residents with superior service and more competitive prices. Social tariffs will be available for those on low income, making connectivity affordable for all. This means faster internet speeds, better reliability, and a range of digital services at your fingertips.
The Leader of Redbridge Council, Cllr Kam Rai, said "With more and more people relying on digital services to carry out everyday activities, our housing tenants must have access to the latest broadband technology.
“Quick and immediate access is crucial for doing everyday things like paying your bills, booking health appointments and finding out about local schools. It all offers you uninterrupted access to content from streaming services.
“We are committed to doing everything possible to ensure digital inclusion in the borough. Local people matter to us, and we're dedicated to providing the best digital services to meet their needs.
