Building new homes is a family affair

Two brothers from Goodmayes are doing their bit to help provide affordable homes for those in most need.

Aman and Sandeep Singh, founders of Major Housing Association, are building 58 new homes in the heart of Seven Kings, a community they are deeply connected to. Born and raised in Goodmayes, the brothers have a strong personal connection to the area and are committed to carrying on their father's business and improving the lives of borough residents.

Like most other London boroughs, Redbridge is grappling with a shortage of available homes, exacerbated by years of government underinvestment in social housing.

Having already delivered homes in areas including Barking and Dagenham, Newham, and Canning Town, the Singh brothers are shifting their focus closer to home.

The properties consist of one-bedroom, two-bedroom, and three-bedroom flats. The Greater London Authority partially funds them as part of its Homes for Londoners: Affordable Homes Programme.

The new homes, which will completed by November, will be allocated through a fair and transparent process, prioritising local families on our housing waiting lists and those living in temporary accommodation.

Cllr Saima Ahmed, Cabinet Member for Housing and Homelessness, said: “We’re doing everything we can to help meet those demands by building hundreds of homes in the borough as well as finding and purchasing homes outside the borough.”

“We’re pleased to be working alongside Major Housing to help us build much-needed affordable homes for those in need. Years of underfunding and investment in building new homes by the previous government mean there’s still much work to do to meet the borough's current housing demands.

"It is therefore vital that we work alongside our community partners to continue to deliver schemes that provide housing for those most in need."

The Singh brothers, Aman and Sandeep, issued a joint statement to underscore their unwavering commitment to the community. They said: “We are proud to deliver 58 affordable rental units exclusively for residents in Redbridge. Having both attended Seven Kings High School, we take immense pride in continuing our father's legacy and vision.

“Our close partnership with Redbridge Council and the Mayor’s office allows us to create sustainable, energy-efficient, and community-driven developments. We remain committed to giving back to the community that shaped us by building quality affordable homes across both the borough and East London.”
