Community litter picking
We know that most people take pride in their local area but, sadly, not everyone takes responsibility for their waste when out and about. Community litter picking is a great way to tackle litter in your local area, whilst getting active and improving your well-being too!
We lend out litter picking equipment for free including litter pickers, gloves, bag hoops, and high visibility waistcoats.
Please let us know if you expect to collect a large amount of litter. In these cases, we will supply branded bags and can arrange collection by our crews from a nominated place.
Once we’ve processed your application, you can collect your litter picking equipment from four libraries in Redbridge. You’ll need a confirmation email from us to do so.
- Redbridge Central Library, Clements Road, Ilford, IG1 1EA
- Goodmayes Library, 76 Goodmayes Lane, Ilford, IG3 9QB
- Fullwell Cross Library, 140 High Street, Barkingside, IG6 2EA
- Wanstead Library, Spratt Hall Road, Wanstead, E11 2RQ
Please ensure that you apply to borrow equipment at least two weeks before your litter pick so that we can make the relevant arrangements.
Before you start litter picking, we’ll ask you to complete a risk assessment to ensure that participants are safe while litter picking on the public highway. We'll provide you with a template for this.

If you come across any issues on the street, such as fly-tipping you can report it to us or via the Love Clean Streets app.

Keep Britain Tidy
Keep Britain Tidy is a UK-based independent environmental charity. The organisation campaigns to reduce litter, improve local places and prevent waste.
Whether you’re litter picking on your own or as part of a group, Keep Britain Tidy would love for you to log your litter picks.
By logging your litter picks, you are actively supporting their campaigns for a deposit return scheme and extended producer responsibility, which have been proven to drastically reduce litter in other countries.
