Ilford Public Realm

Major improvements unveiled for Ilford High Road

A multi-million pound boost for major street improvements has transformed Ilford High Road.

Work has been completed on the new high-quality, accessible public spaces, and alongside the arrival of Crossrail, the major street improvements will fundamentally revitalise Ilford Town Centre.

The improvements took place along Ilford High Road (from the crossroads with Cranbrook Road through to the area outside Ilford Police Station) and included the following connecting side streets: Clements Lane, Oakfield Road and Chadwick Road.

Ilford Public Realm - Phase 1

We have completed the implementation of the first phase of the transformational public realm scheme for Ilford Town Centre at the junction of the High Road and Chadwick Road. The new public realm works include new natural stone paving, new benches, new lamp columns with gobo projectors and new Big Belly bins.

Ilford Public Realm - Phase 2

Phase 2 carried on from Phase 1 starting from Ilford Exchange going eastward along the High Road.

Metis (the designers), in discussion with stakeholders,  put together concept designs for a new high road layout focusing on the uses of the public space. The new high road layout has new street furniture, play features, planting and a new market layout. The  design had been created specifically for the needs of the community in Ilford.

You can view the concept designs which have been informed by local stakeholder engagement.
