Ilford Station area improvements

Ilford Station area improvements

Together with Transport for London and Crossrail we are currently working to improve the area around entrances to Ilford Station.

Funding has been secured and improvement works commenced in early 2016. Our aspiration is to make Ilford more accessible, convenient and safer for everyone. We also believe these enhancements will help contribute to the regeneration of the whole town.

The improvements will conclude in time to coincide with the arrival of Crossrail services.

A multi-million-pound re-build of the main Ilford Station Entrance has been completed, including a new ticket hall building in Cranbrook Road. A secondary station entrance on York Road and a new Ilford Southern Entrance on Ilford Hill has also opened as part of the GLA Housing Zone investment.

The enhancements aim to:

  • create a more pedestrian friendly space including the removal of guard rails and improved pedestrian crossing points
  • renew and upgrade pavements and road surfaces
  • improve pedestrian flow by removing footway obstructions, reducing congestion caused by bus stop queues and providing better signage
  • improve lighting to make the area safer
  • contribute to a reduction in anti-social behaviour
  • improve the environment by planting more trees along walkways where possible
