How year groups are decided
Children are admitted by their age and when they were born. Once you know your child’s academic year group, you apply for a school place in the year group that applies to your child.
How to change your child’s year group
If you decide you want to apply for a school place that doesn’t fall in your child’s usual academic year group, we will need you to explain with evidence, why you think your child should be admitted out of the normal chronological year. We will contact:
- the head teacher of your child’s current/previous school about your request to change your child’s academic year group
- our advisers on exceptional medical/psychological admissions before any decision is made
How to change your child’s year group while in school
The Headteacher decides if your child should be moved up or down a year group. This would only take place after consultation with you and any other professionals involved with your child.
